Union General Thomas Alfred Davies graduated from West Point in 1829. He was ranked 25th among his graduating class of cadets that numbered 46. As an aside, Davies was in the same class as Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Joseph Johnston. Davies saw service in the First Battle of Bull Run. He was then transferred to the Western Theater and took part on the Battle of Corinth and Island Number Ten.
