Union General Edmund Kirby graduated from West Point in 1861. He was ranked tenth among the 45 cadets in his graduating class. Kirby spent his battlefield action in the Eastern Theater of the US Civil War. He was in the First Battle of Bull Run, and later served in the Peninsula campaign. He also served in the battles of Antietam and Chancellorsville. It was in the latter battle that he was wounded and died several weeks later from that wound.
