Union General Thomas Hewson Neill graduated from West Point in 1847. He ranked 27th in his graduating class of 38 cadets. During the war, the highlight of his battle career was at the Battle of Gettysburg.
Union General David Hunter graduated from West point in 1822. In his class of 40 cadets, Hunter was ranked 25th. Hunter was an avid abolitionist and President Lincoln had to reverse Hunter's proclamation that slaves were "freed" in Southern territory he was occupying. General Hunter is best known for his failure to capture Charleston in 1862.
Union General James Hughes Stokes graduated from West Point in 1835. He was ranked 17th among the 56 graduating cadets that year. Stokes saw action mostly in the Western Theater. He is best known for his battlefield actions at Perrysville and Chickamauga.

Union General Benjamin Butler did not graduate from West Point. He did have a college education and graduated from Colby College in Maine. He also passed the bar in Massachusetts and practiced law before the US Civil War.
Union General Thomas Gamble Pitcher graduated from West Point in 1845. He ranked 40th in his graduating class of cadets that numbered 41. Pitcher served in the defense of Harper's Ferry in 1862 and was later wounded at the Battle of Cedar Mountain that same year. His wounds did not allow him to return to service the remainder of the war.
Union General George Gordon Meade graduated from West Point in 1835. Meade ranked 19th in a graduating class of 56 cadets. Meade is best known for his victory at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Union General Thomas Williams graduated from West Point in 1837. Among the class of 50 graduating cadets, Williams ranked 12th. His service in the US Civil War was brief in that he was shot and wounded attempting to stop Confederate forces under General Breckenridge from retaking Baton Rouge in August of 1862.
Union General Alfred Thomas Archimedes Torbert graduated from West Point in 1855. He was was ranked 21st in his class of 34 cadets. Torbert spent his US Civil War duty in the Eastern Theater of the war. He served in the battles of South Mountain, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and in Gettysburg.
Union General Lorenzo Thomas graduated from West Point in 1823. He was ranked 17th in his graduating class of cadets that numbered 33. Thomas was assigned to work in the US War Department when the US Civil War broke out. He was accused of joining a conspiracy to prove General William T. Sherman was insane. Due to that he was transferred to the Western Theater to recruit Freed Men to the US Army.
