Aspirin was first made in 1853 by a french chemists named Charles Frederic Gerhardt by buffering salicylic acid with sodium and acetyl chloride. This idea was lost but was rediscovered in 1899 by the German Chemist Felix Hoffmann. Felix worked for the company Bayer and had the company market it.
