In 1858, Dickens left the home they shared in London and moved into Gad's Hill Place, where he lived until his death in 1870. Most agree that his motivation was his relationship with Ellen Ternan.
Catherine Hogarth and Charles Dickens split up in 1858 after 22 years of marriage. Their separation was tumultuous and ultimately led to a public scandal.
