Eastern Europeans were long wanting democracy as the vast majority opposed communism. Eastern Europe also feared Western interference with communism, so they switched to democracies to please the West. Bulgaria has been a republic since 1989.
The nation of Bulgaria has no political rivals today. Since the fall of communism, it has been a peaceful place to reside.
