Father Damien was born in Tremeloo, Belgium. Damien's first name was Joseph de Vuester. He and his father worked at a family farm, his mother did the same. As for his older brother, the worked at a chruch down the road. Damien's father told him one day that farming didn't suit him and he needed to find another job, Damien agreed and found a hobby for teaching and preaching Catholicism. He joined his brother, Phampile at that church. Phampile was supposed to go to Hawaii for a mission, but he caught typhus, a disease and was to ill to go. So Damien took his place and on a boat he went to Hawaii.
