With the Wright brothers. In 1903 they flew the first powered aircraft. After their success in order to demonstrate the capabilities of their aircraft they performed many exhibition flights. After World War I, some of the pilots coming back became barnstormers and performed stunts and also gave airplane rides around the country. These barnstormers performed solo and sometimes in groups called flying circuses. During the 1920s and 30s airplanes began to be built for the specific purpose of stunt flying and air racing starting a new era in aviation history.
