emit methane gas (a dangerous greenhouse gas),
use up valuable land,
contain a lot of valuable items that could be recycled like glass, metals, aluminum and paper.
Then people realised that landfills were an important environmental issue.

∙ 15y agoLandfills (also known as Midden's) became popular about 1,000,000 years ago on the Salisbury plane and have been in use ever since. The first modern landfill (in the US) was The City of Fresno's "Fresno Municipal Sanitary Landfill" 1935 - 1989.
