They started in 1996. and were called Xero. Mike, Brad and Rob started it, and than Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (Brad's roommate), and Joe Hahn (Mike's roommate) joined the band. When Chester got in the band (in 1998) they changed their name into Hybrid Theory, but for legal reasons changed it into Linkin Park. There you go. :)
