The Goodyear Polyglas GT's were patented in 1967. They were available in late 1968 on production cars with one of the applications being the Mustang. Raised white letter tires were manufactured under the following names Goodyear Polyglas GT, Firestone Wide-Oval and etc but I can't find any definite record as to who was first in the market with them.
If you watch Vanishing Point (movie) the white 1970 Dodge Challenger driven by the protagonist uses Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.
By 1955 tubeless tires became standard equipment on new cars in the US.

I walk around and look at my tires every day. I carry a gauge with me and check if they appear to be down at all.

If the wound is on an arm or leg that does not appear to have a broken bone
Typically it's either raised too high or the suspension needs an alignment. Have you raised the vehicle? If so, that's the problem.
Mazda doesnt make the tires

Standard 215-60-R15 tires can be replaced with 215-50-R17 tires by first installing new rims. The vehicle may need to be raised with a suspension lift kit to achieve sufficient clearance.
If you can get it raised then you can get tires of any size as long as there street legal.
