It costs less to grow crops with slaves who don't have to be paid, than it does to grow crops by hiring people to work on your plantation.

because we had war and the north won so we ended slavery but the south wanted to keep slavery and we had many wars and the north won again and the south though the north would grow tiered and give up but the the war is now known as the cilvil war.
They did not want slavery in the south they wanted to be apart of slavery.
It was one of the few things you could grow in the south not to mention it was the best thing to grow back then in that conditions as far as the soil nutrrition.
