It began with the break between King Henry VIII of England and the Roman Church, specifically Pope Clement VII, in 1534. This was the beginning of the Anglican Church in name, although Christianity first came to the British Isles in the 1st or 2nd century, and there were many unique English elements to the faith, even while they were still in full communion with Rome.

The Church has never officially broken with the Roman Church, it was the other way around, by means of the Church of Trent.

The name Anglican in reference to the Church in England was first used by Baeda in his history of England when he describes the Church in England as the Ecclesia Anglicana! That was about 750 AD, later at the time of the struggle for the Magna Carta, this term was used again to describe the Church of the English People.

It was also used during the middle ages to identify the Church in England in correspondence with Continental Churches!

The faith was brought to Britain within a few months of the resurrection, brought by S. Simon Zelote, Brother of Christ! The First bishop was Aristobulos, consecrated bishop by S.Paul.
