On April 22 1519, by Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes. It is the date he founded the first Spanish settlement in Mexico, along the southern Gulf of Mexico. First founded as the "Rich village of the True Cross", (Spanish: Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz). Nowadays, the settlement is known as the city and port of Veracruz.
Mexico was discovered by a person named Caley Jackson from Bucklin, MO . She discovered Mexico while on her way to Centrelia, MO with her granmpa , on her way to a coon hunt with Derick Gardner . Derick Gardner and Caley Jackson and Caley's granpa saw that the town was not named and there were alot of Mexicans that lived in Mexico so ... they decided to call the new town "Mexico". 45 miles north of Moberly .
Columbus is credited with making the European discovery of America, of which Mexico is a part. So in a sense he can be said to have discovered Mexico. However, Columbus never traveled to the lands that are now part of the United States of Mexico.
