I got that the Grand Canyon started forming 60-70 million years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but The Grand Canyon started forming about 1.7 billion years ago. The Grand Canyon of Arizona was formed near 6 million years ago by the Colorado River.
Before European Immigration, the area was inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon ("Ongtupqa" in Hopi language) a holy site and made pilgrimages to it. Grand Canyon National Park was established on February 26, 1919. It had gained protection by the Federal government in 1906 when Theodore Roosevelt designated it as a game preserve in 1906 and a National Monument in 1908.
