They didn't. The Maya as a people still make up a sizable part of Mexico's population. In several regions - especially in the Yucatan area - the Maya language is still spoken and Maya traditions are still upheld. Only the Mayan religion has changed to Roman Catholic.

∙ 9y agoThe Mayans died out because when the Europeans came to Central America they brought with them diseases, the Mayans did not have immunity to those diseases. Some of them are still living today but don't practice the same religion they once did.

∙ 12y agoFrom what I found as I looked and looked, the Mayans did not die off, they divided into several smaller tribes around the 8th or 9th century...some people say that when the 200 year drought happened the Mayans could not make it past that...for more information look up Maya civilization with Wikipedia.
