Barack Obama was elected president in 2008. He officially became President at noon on January 20th, 2009. He was elected with the majority of votes on November 4, 2008. The President's first term ended on January 20th, 2013. Since he won re-election (on November 6, 2012), he was once again inaugurated and officially began his second term in office on January 20th, 2013.

The date is specified in the Twentieth Amendment of the Constitution. It requires that the president's term of office begins at noon on January 20 of the year following the presidential election. This date, known as Inauguration Day, marks the beginning of the four-year terms of both the president and vice-president. Before executing the powers of the office, a president is constitutionally required to take the presidential oath.
