The Yukon entered the Canadian Confederation in 1898, making it 110 years old as of the year 2008.
The last province to join Confederation was Newfoundland, in 1949. The last territory to join Canada was Nunavut, in 1999.
They were acquired in a deal from Britain. They were given no choice in the matter so in that sense did not "join". Seeing how Canada and Britain represented their interest in the Alaska Border dispute it is likely they would not have joined given a choice but of course we will never know.

He didn't "join" Confederation, well I guess in one sense he did because he was one of our Fathers of Confederation and a professional politician. Maybe that is why.
