It was an old Greek legend.
Not particularly, the Chimera is said to have three heads, the head of a lion, a goat, and a snake and that tends to be it. However, there are some versions in which one (or all) of the heads can breathe fire or the Chimera has wings.
a chimera
A griffin/gryphon is a mythical creature with a lion's body and the wings of an eagle. It's eagle-features may extend to it including an eagle's head and front claws as well as just the wings. A chimera/chimaera is rather ferociously a mixture between a lion (head), goat (body) and dragon (tail).
Was Chimera nocturnal
I believe its called a chimera (added later) actually, i believe a chimera also has the heads of a goat and snake/dragon. Though often confused with a griffin (which has both the wings AND head of an eagle) there is no other term for a winged lion.
