On 30 April 1975, NVA tank #844 crashed thru the South Vietnamese Capital's gate. The top South Viet Commander was General Minh; he approached the NVA commander and said, "I wish to surrender our forces to you...", in which the NVA Commander replied, "...you have NO forces left to surrender!"
South Vietnam's surrender to North Vietnam is what ended the Vietnam War. The North Vietnamese had the goal of Vietnamese Unification and the surrender of South Vietnam in 1975 allowed them to achieve that objective.

No. World War 2 had two official endings when the Germans and Japanese and one smaller surrender by the Italians of the Axis Forces to the Allied Forces. Viet Nam was lost by the South Vietnamese after the French and the US were completely out of the war. The North Vietnamese took over when the South Vietnamese had to surrender to the communists. There were no armistices in those two wars just as there were none in the Cold War either.
