It took nine years before the Statue of Liberty was completed in 1884. it was a gift to the United States and had to be taken apart in order to send it. This icon of freedom had to be put back together piece by piece by the United States and dedicated on October 28, 1886.

The Statue of Liberty was finished in 1885 and erected in 1886 in New York Harbor. The entire statue is made of copper and weighs 62,000 pounds not including the base.
