the wright brother invented the glider in the 1890s it was a successful one similar to a airplane but without the engine
powerd telly- Orville Wright and his brother Wilbur Wright also invented the first powered flight that could carry a human
The Wright brothers rode their first glider off a hill. I assume you actually meant their wright flyer. For that, they used a twelve horse-power engine of their own making.
the wings got holes in them and there was a strong wind and raining
No. Gliders had been long around before the Wrights, Otto Lilienthal, whose work they studied extensively. Lilienthal was among the first (of many) to build gliders that were reliable and flew predictably, time after time. In aviation, 'firsts' are pretty irrelevant. To do something repeatedly and reliably is a much better proof of concept. The Wright flyer was one of the last glider-inspired designs before the 'modern' layout became the norm. "To invent an airplane is nothing. To build one is something. But to fly is everything." -Otto Lilienthal more info here: http://hawaii.psychology.msstate.edu/LilienthalMuseum/Lilmuseum.html
