Edelweiss can start to bear fruit in as little as a year from planting. If the new vine is mulched and kept well watered, and lightly fertilized with something like fish, you should be able to train up a trunk the first year. Then, the next year it can be allowed to bear two or three clusters of grapes. If the vine doesn't grow enough to develop the proper form the first year, cut it back to two buds in the winter and start it over.
