Best Answer

Rabbits moult three or four times per year, about every three to four months. Sometimes the moult is light and the rabbit doesn't lose much fur. Often the heaviest moult is in the spring and summer, when the rabbit loses his or her winter coat.

Brush your rabbit regularly when s/he is moulting. When rabbits swallow a lot of fur, they can get deathly ill (GI stasis). Rabbits can't vomit fur balls like cats can. (See the related questions below.)

Male rabbits DO go through a molt. Usually their first molt is at about 6 months of age. They don't go bald or anything, but they will shed a lot of their hair. they will go through another one after they turn a year old, and some will go through it once or twice a year after that. It's completely normal. Consider giving your rabbit dried papya during this time to prevent any hair blockage - which can be fatal.

Usually during the summer. It is hot so they shed extra.

Pet rabbits shed (moult) three to four times per year. Some moults are heavier than others; you might not even notice a very light moult. You should brush your rabbit when she is moulting so she doesn't consume too much fur. (Unlike cats, rabbits can't vomit, so their "fur balls" have to work their way through their entire digestive system and could cause impaction and deadly illness.)

The heaviest moults will often be in the spring and summer, but a bunny could moult in the winter, too. Pet rabbits are bred from the European Rabbit who's native habitat is the Mediterranean, so their natural behaviours aren't related to North American seasons.

Rabbits moult three to four times per year. Sometimes the moult is really heavy, and there's fur everywhere; other times, you might hardly notice it at all. A moult can last a couple of months.

When your rabbit is moulting, you should brush him daily. You should also encourage lots of water drinking and hay eating! The reason is: Rabbits groom themselves, so when their fur is loose they end up swallowing the loose fur. Rabbits can't vomit, so that fur has to work its way through the entire digestive system! If there's a lot of fur, or if the rabbit is dehydrated or isn't eat much fiber (hay), then the fur can actually block the digestive system, leading to serious illness (GI Stasis) and even death.

Rabbits normally moult in the spring just like any other animal. They may also moult when there is a severe weather change like sudden heat wave.

Molting is another word for shedding. If the rabbit is molting it is shedding.
