The best months seem to be October and November, particularly November. The most fish I've seen at Stainforth Force have been on the following dates

22nd November 2007 - almost 400 per hour

18th November 2008 - 480 per hour

12th November 2009 - 150 per hour

When the river is a raging torrent, the salmon don't want to know. Go a day or two after heavy rain while the river is still high but not too high. Take a look at the Environment Agency's river levels website to see what the level has been at Stackhouse Lock, just below Stainforth. This will give you the levels there over the previous couple of days. You should then be able to judge whether it's worth going.
