does a 1997 1.5l maxda protege have a timing belt or timing chain. When should i change it.
Mazda recommends that the belt be replaced every 105k.
timing belt
The 2000 Mazda Protege has electric fans, hence there is no fan belt to change.
yes its a timing belt if its the 2.0 L fs engine
YOU DON'T WANT TO TRY THIS BY YOURSLF IF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE
transmition with chain.
On a 2003 Mazda Protege it must be changed at 105,000 miles. This is an interference engine and as such if the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur.
The recommended timing belt interval is at 160000 kilometers or 100000 miles.
I was looking at the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc. ) and for the 1600 cc engine in a 2003 Mazda Protege ( Canada ) it shows ( 60,000 miles )
2001 Mazda MPV does not have a timing belt, it has two timing chains.
According the manual book ,mazda proteges 2000 has timing belt and should be replace at 105 K miles .Hope would help .
