When do you do a tune up on a car?
The owner's manual that came with the car tells you when various services should be done. Frequently it is better to do them more often than recommended in the owner's manual, but they should be done at least as often as recommended by the owner's manual.
That depends on the car. Some vehicles with points in the distributor needed a tune-up every 10,000 miles. Solid state ignitions have changed that number and many of the GM vehicles are advertising that you don't need your first tune-up for 100,000 miles. Refer to the owners manual for the recommended interval between tune-ups.
If you have the automobile manual (usually located in the glove box of the vehicle) it will usually have s suggested time period and/or when you reach a certain mileage when you should bring your car in for a tune-up.
