After discovering that my 25-hydroxy Vitamin D (the proper blood test for vitamin D status) was critically low (23.6 ng/ml), I first experimented with sun bathing 30 minutes every day at noon in Southern California summer -- with no appreciable effect after six weeks. However, I was then exercising and showering immediately afterwards which (no kidding) can "wash out" the cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) formed by the sun's UVB interaction with our skin's 7-dehydrocholesterol. So sun bathing, which was really never an option for me long term, was out. Having researched the need for Vitamin D, I decided to begin supplementing with THIS excellent and economical 5,000 IU Vitamin-D. I waited until receiving my first updated blood test results before writing this review: After 6 weeks of taking TWO of these per day (10,000 IU/day -- so twice the label-recommended dosage) my blood test results from two days ago was 58.9 ng/ml. I plan to drop back down to a single "little drop of sunshine" per day soon. I was only 'double dosing" to get the levels up and to see where they would go. You DEFINITELY don't want to take too much, so follow the label unless you're keeping a close eye on your blood levels, as I am. But rest assured that this is a terrific Vitamin-D.
