WARNING: The Honda Accord 4 cylinder up to year 2002 is an interference engine and if the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur. It is critical to replace the belt. Also the timing belt drives the water pump so replace the water pump at the same time to save labor costs later on when the pump fails. The life of the pump is about the same as the belt. 2003 and up Honda Accord 4 cylinders do not have a timing belt but instead have a chain. No maintenance is required on 2003 -2009 Accord 4 cylinders. Below is the mileage to replace the belt. 1976-89 Accord 4 cyl. 60,000 miles 1990-96 Accord 4 cyl. 90,000 miles 1997-02 Accord 4 cyl. 105,000 miles
