Hedgehog's should NEVER go into hibernation. They are to small and wont be able to live off body if they go into hibernation they will most likely die :( so you must put a heater in over/under the cage.
If it is dead, it won't be breathing. Look under the porcupine's nose or mouth, like under their chin. DON'T move it or touch it, try to make a safe place AROUND it.
A hedgehog's heart beat when its hibernating is so slow you would think it dead- about three times a minute, i think.
