Cercis canadensis.
Redbud Hollow was created in 1750.
The official state tree of Oklahoma is the Cercis canadensis, or Eastern Redbud. It can either grow as a large shrub or small tree, and is easily recognizable by its beautiful, reddish-purple blooms and pink flowers in the spring, from March to May.
To root an eastern redbud tree, find and clip a good branch with no signs of disease. The piece should be about 2 feet long and not more than about half an inch in diameter. Soak the end in rooting hormones and then place it in water. After about two weeks you should begin to see roots and your new tree is ready to plant.

Redbuds need full sun. They also need good drainage. They need space around them so they are a beautiful specimen plant.
