Was there ever Murray cod in the tweed river?

No.Why? Because Murray cod (Maccullochella peelii) are only naturally found in the Murray-Darling River System. They do not occur in the eastern-flowing coastal rivers, such as the Tweed River. However, there are two species of cod closely related to Murray cod, that are or were found in some coastal rivers. These are eastern freshwater cod (Maccullochella ikei), which were found in both the Clarence and Richmond River systems, and Mary River cod (Maccullochella mariensis), which were found in the Brisbane, Logan, Coomera and Mary River systems.Unfortunately eastern freshwater cod have become extinct in the Richmond River. They have been restocked but don't seem to be breeding. And unfortunately, Mary River cod are now extinct everywhere except a few tiny pockets of the Mary River system. The interesting thing is that the Tweed River is the middle of where these coastal cods were once found ... and yet we have no record of them being in the Tweed River. It seems for some reason the coastal cod species never managed to colonise the Tweed River.
