Couple of things. Check the ground for the loom at the rear. If that is clean and tight I would suspect that the problem is in the brake light switch.
There is a device that works with your brakes to help the brakes,it is a servo pump that has gone out on your car. Mine went out too but I am strong so I just use the brakes without the servo pump.
I had the same problem, all I did was replace the fitting that the bulb goes in with a new one ( $8.00 fix) and replaced the tail light and haven't had a problem since.
The problem is inside the speedo and has to go to a speedo shop to be repaired.

If engine vacuum is low the brakes will be difficult to push. Sometimes, if the engine isn't running well when it's cold, the vacuum level will be low and the brakes won't work well. Have someone check that out for you.
