Can you play as riku in Kingdom Hearts 1?
well no....... but i hate to braek it to u but u can only play as sora. :( But in kingdom hearts two you can play as him at the very last boss for about 30 secs-1min (make the most of it ;) )

Why is Kairi the only one who originally can't fight out of the three protagonist trios in the Kingdom Hearts series?
While I may not be totally true I have a idea or two. Why she can not originally fight is because, Sora obtains the "light" Keyblade when the power of his heart is shown when Riku leaves through a dark power. Riku obtains his keyblade(this is a theory) by it being a synthesized one through the dark power Xahnort's heartless merges with Riku's body and eventually takes it over. Kairi's heart is lost when Sora goes into the cave where a strage door appears in front of it. If you remember it is revealed that Kiari's heart becomes intertwined with Sora's. So Kiari really has no chance to ever obtain a Keyblade to help Sora or Riku fight. Also as a side note Kiari can not obtain the "dark" Keyblade which Mickey obtains at the end of Kingdom Hearts 1.

They had a fight there over who's right; Riku, which claiming Xion and her key-blade are fake, or Xion, who is getting mad at him for calling her this way and says he's the one acting fake. He knocks her and leaves the place, while Xion is on the ground, defeated, and screams in pain.Later, Riku had seen cradling a painful Xion in his arms, back at Destiny Island. Xion had a nightmare about the scene in Kingdom Hearts Chain Of Memories, where Zexion gives Riku an hurtful speech about how he destroyed his home and forgot his friends. When Xion awakes in Riku's lap she asks him who is he. He answers his name is Riku and that he's Sora's friend. He tells her who she really is, and she asks if he hates her for rubbing his friends away from him. He answers that he does not hate her, but he is sad. She apologized, saying that she still don't want to disappear so he gave her time to think.In one scene Xion's hugging her knees, looks like she's crying in her bed, back at The World That Never Was, and asks: "What should I do... Riku."The two also later shared a conversation in Twilight Town.
