* The correct etiquette in Western culture is to walk side by side, but some men take long strides and it's hard for a woman to keep up. He should slow down and walk beside you. When walking out on the street the man should always be next to the road (he's suppose to protect you from traffic.)

∙ 12y ago- Etiquette seems to have gone out the window these days and often it is either the wife leading or the man. However, the proper etiquette is the man walks on the sidewalk with his body to the traffic at all times and the woman on the inside. Walking down the Mall they should walk side by side, but in today's crowded world this may be harder than one thinks. Also, often men simply don't like to shop so they may be either in a hurry or dawdle down a Mall wondering when the heck they are going to get out of there.
