It depends on what the lie is about! Do you tell a three year old that Father Christmas doesn't exist? - of course not. You tell the child that if he or she doesn't get to sleep on Christmas Eve, Father Christmas may not visit and leave presents. As with all aspects of parenting, it is all a question of making a sensible choice, depending on the age and innocence of your child. Let the child enjoy the wonder and mystery of childhood. Adult responsibility comes all too soon!
