In a spreadsheet, all calculations that you do are formulas. If you cannot use formulas, then a spreadsheet has very little use. In math there are standard formulas for doing specific types of calculations. You would use a formula when you want to do those specific calculations.

It is impossible to list all formulas here, because every formula you would do is different. It would be like asking someone to write all sentences that there are in the English language. There are a limited number of functions and types of calculations, in the same way that there are a limited amount of letters and words, but putting them together allows infinite possibilities. You use formulas to solve the problem that you are trying to solve, in the same way you put words together to say what you want to say.

A very simple example of a formula which would add values in two different cells would be:

=A1+A2

A1 refers to a cell in Column A, Row 1 and A2 is the cell in Column A and Row 2. The formula must start with the equals sign. Without it, it will be treated as a piece of text. This formula will add the numbers that are in the two cells and put the result in the cell that the formula is typed into. No formula can be typed into a cell referenced in its formula. So the above formula could not be put in cell A1 or cell A2.

What are four ways to add a function to a formula?

Type the formula directly in the cell or the formula. Use formula AutoComplete. Select a function from the Function Library group, or click the Insert Function button to select a function from the Insert Function dialog. Use AutoSum

What formula do you use to calculate information?

function

What can be used to find an Excel function by typing a description of the formula?

You can use the Insert Function button fx on the Formula bar to find an Excel function by typing a description of the formula at the Insert Function dialog box, in the Search for a function text box and then click Go.

Can you use the quadratic formula after reducing a polynomial to a quartic function?

No.

Is changing a function to a formula not an example of what-if analysis?

In Excel, a working function is already a formula. A function is defined as being a built-in formula. So in that sense you cannot change a function into a formula, as it already is one. It can also be part of a formula. A formula can contain many functions. Changing a function does not necessarily constitute what-if analysis. A lot of what-if analysis is done by changing values that formula use rather than formulas themselves.

In the if formula can your answer be an hlookup?

It would be a complex formula, and there are probably better ways of achieving what you would want to do, but it is possible to have a Hlookup as part of an If function.

A nested function is placed in the cell below the first formula true or false?

False. A nested function is a function within another function, so it would be in the same formula. An alternative to nesting would be to put a separate function in a different cell and use its result in the other formula. In that case it would not have to be put in the cell below the first formula.

Can the IF function in Excel create a field on the summary sheet that would compute late fees if the invoice has not been paid by the due date?

You could use the IF or SUMIF function to do that. There are potentially lots of ways of doing it. How the formula or formulas are constructed is going to depend on the structure of your data. You could use the IF or SUMIF function to do that. There are potentially lots of ways of doing it. What is the function in a spreadsheet that will allow you to add?

You can use the SUM function to do it, or you could do it other ways, like just using the + in a formula.

Which built-in formula function can find the lowest number from a range of cells?

You can use the MIN function. If your range was A1 to A15, then your formula would be: =MIN(A1:A15) You can also use the SMALL function, although it is more for when you want to find a position like the second smallest or third smallest. To use it to find the smallest you would type: =SMALL(A1:A15,1) The 1 tells it to find the smallest. 2 would mean the second smallest and so on. To find the smallest it is better and simpler to use MIN.

Does a formula have equals SIGN in it?

In an Excel spreadsheet and equals sign normally starts a formula. You can also start with a plus or minus or start a function with the @ symbol, because some spreadsheet applications use that, but they will be converted to an equals sign. The equals signs tells Excel that you are going to use a formula, so if you started a function without it, the function would be treated like a piece of text.In an Excel spreadsheet and equals sign normally starts a formula.
