You can never stop at a red curb. You can stop at a yellow curb but only to load or unload freight and/or passengers. You can not park in either of these zones.

I think that would depend on the county and country in question. In the UK, "next to is next to" and you get a ticket.
That depends on what color the curb is. White is for passenger loading or unloading only. Yellow is for cargo loading. Red means absolutely no parking. Green is usually for a limited time. Blue is for handicapped parking only. Watch the posted signs when you park.
