Menstruation occurs during the fertile years of a human female. So menstruation is absent during childhood up until puberty, and after childbearing years after a woman has gone through menopause towards her late 40's-50's. Menstruation will also be absent in a human female when she is on hormonal Birth Control to suppress the menstrual cycle, if a woman becomes pregnant, and/or if she has a hysterectomy to prevent menstruation. Also not all women are born with a uterus so some women will go their entire lives without ever menstruating.
