There is no year of the Cat in the Chinese zodiac. The Cat, however, is the animal used in the place of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac used in Vietnam. So the next year of the Cat (Rabbit) as of 2016 will be Jan 22, 2023-Feb 9, 2024; the year of the Yang Water Cat(Rabbit).
The old legend tells that when God invited all the animals to His dinner to become part of the zodiac the rat told the cat that the dinner was on a different night so the cat missed out and that is why cats hate rats. A popular anime called Fruits Basket uses this story in it's plot line.
