If u mean the bbc program then Aprl 3rd 2012
I have only heard about the Sherlock Holmes The Musical which was back in 1988.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the one who wrote the books of Sherlock Holmes back at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the twentieth century, and he is long dead. However, films are still being made, notably the Sherlock Holmes film of 2009 which is to be followed by a sequel in December of 2011 and the BBC series "Sherlock", setting Sherlock Holmes in moder day London, was released in 2010 and the next series will follow in 2012.
"The final Problem" was the name of the book in which Sherlock Holmes was written to die, however, readers insisted he be brought back, and to great surprise he was!
Afganistan then it goes into London then to united states and then back to london.
Autumn 2011! :)
It'll be coming to British screens in Autumn 2011, and presumably soon after in America. Apparently The series will contain the words Hound, Adler, Reichenbach. Argh! Can't wait!
In the books and most movies, Prof. Moriarty (his arch nemesis) and Holmes fall off the Reichenbach Falls. Sherlock survives, but Moriarty dies. The only reason Conan Doyle killed him off was because he grew tired of the character and the series, and it was distracting him from other projects. He brought back Sherlock Holmes because fans of Holmes got angry and forced Conan Doyle to bring him back. In the BBC modern-day adaptation of Sherlock, Moriarty tells Sherlock that he will kill Sherlock's friends is Sherlock does not kill himself. This exchange occurs on top of St. Bartholomew's Hospital. Moriarty shoots himself in the head, and then Sherlock jumps to his apparent death. At the very end of the episode, it is shown that Sherlock is still alive.
In 1893 After seeing the magnificent Reichenbach Falls in the northern Swiss Alps Conan Doyle decided the place would make a worthy tomb for Sherlock Holmes. The Final Problem was published in Dec 1893 in The Strand magazine. People were so upset that many thousands cancelled their subscription to the magazine. In 1901-02 Sherlock Holmes reappeared in the novel 'The Hound of the Baskervilles.' However its clear that Holmes was not alive. This story took place before the incident at Reichenbach Falls. The short story The Adventure of the Empty House in the book "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" published in Oct 1903 saw the re-appearance of Sherlock Holmes and the description of how he had disappeared.
No, Sherlock Holmes faked his own death, and then he was brought back in an additionalthirty-two short stories and two novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In my opinion, Sherlock died of old age even though he was a beekeeper in retirement.
To answer your question, according to the stories the Great Hiatus, as it is called in Sherlockiana, lasted from May 1891 until April 1894 or about three years. In the real world, 'The Final Problem' (the story in which Holmes was thought to have died) was published in published in December 1893 while 'The Adventure of the Empty House' (the story in which Holmes reappeared) was published in October 1903 with 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' told in the past tense was published in 1901 and 1902. ------ Yes the author brought Holmes back. The reason he brought him back was because there was a great outcry from his fans and bunches of letters pleading for the author to bring him back. The reason the author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle killed Sherlock in the first place was because the book originally was just a side project and after a while of writing Sherlock Holmes stories Doyle began hating Sherlock.
There was a story where Sherlock went over the edge of Reichenbach Falls, called "The Final Problem" in the book The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. It was an attempt by Conan Doyle to eliminate the character, whom he had grown tired of. The public outcry was so great, that he brought him back through a clever plot line. You'll find his return in the story "The Adventure of the Empty House" in the book The Return of Sherlock Holmes.Conan Doyle had written a novel between "The Final Problem" and "The Adventure of the Empty House" called "The Hound of the Baskervilles". (published 1901-02) [worth reading] The plot was set before Holmes' death, so that Conan Doyle would not have to resurrect him. He asked (and got) twice as much per word from his publishers, Smith, Elder & Sons to put Holmes into the plot. The book sold so well that both the Strand Magazine and Colliers in the U.S. made Conan Doyle an offer he did not refuse to bring Holmes back from the 'dead' Thus 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes', 'The Valley of Fear', 'The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes' and 'His Last Bow'.
Its back!
