From least to most: Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet
the white light is separated into its component colors:) red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
Red light.
Refraction. White light is a mix of colors in the first place; these colors have different indices of refraction. That is, when moving from air to glass, as in a prism, they will bend at slightly different angles.
If the light enters the prism at an angle the light will bend. The amount the light will bend depends on its wavelength. Each wavelength is bent a different amount effectively splitting the light into its constituent wavelengths. Visible light (390 - 750 nm) will split into a rainbow. see link below
Against the Grain, if you bend with the grain it will split the grains
A prism will split light into its component colors. If a colored light is used, there will be less colors in the split light. A beam from a red light for instance will have very little blue or green light in it so you will not get the full spectrum from the prism.

Refraction is when light bends through an object. White light is made up of all the colors of the spectrum. Different colors have different wavelengths, therefore they bend at different angles. So when white light passes through a prism the different colors bend at different angles, so they separate to produce the rainbow of light that we see.

The thickness of the glass causes the white lights' components to bend and spread out its colors. The thicker the glass the more it bends. The red would be at the thickest and blue at the thinner part. Light actually slows down. When light passes from one medium to another it is refracted, that is bent, the amount of bending depends on the wavelength. Different colours have different wavelengths and as white light is made up of all colours each is bent by a different amount, so the light is split
Rainbows occur shortly after it rains. White light (sunlight) consists of each color, each with a different wavelength. The rain partices act like a prism. The light goes into the prsim and refracts into every color. Other waves don't refract this way but certain colors bend more than others. The rain droplets bend the white light into separate colors to make a rainbow.
A prism is an object that can bend light and has a triangular shape. It has two triangular bases and three rectangular sides, which causes light to refract or bend when it passes through it, separating it into different colors. Prisms are commonly used in optics and experiments to study the properties of light.
change of medium causes light to bend
Light refracts(bends) when it passes through to a different medium at an angle. White light is a mix of all the colours of the rainbow, and each colour has it's own refractive index, which means it bends to a greater or lesser degree compared to any other colour. Refracting white light refracts all the colours, but they all bend to different degrees, so they split up.
