When relocating a cat colony how do you get the cats to stay in the new area?

first of all it is not called colony, that's for bee's.The cats need to adjust to the area and if they already did than they come in the morning 4 food then they go off and come back in the evening,so unless it is an indoor cat it ain't saying anywhere!
