It depends on the engine and situation. Sometimes the water pump, idler puller, or tensioners need replaced also.
Idler and tensioner pulleys, cam and crank oil seals and pays to do water pump also if it is driven from the timing belt.
I had the timing belt on a 2001 Subaru Legacy replaced. After getting the car back, it was misfiring, and eventually the engine shut down. Dealer diagnosed faulty crankshaft sensor. Anybody else have this experience?
If the timing belt drives the water pump you should also replaced it at the same time. Also inspect the tensioner and replace as necessary.
The cost to replace the timing belt on a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse is about $700. This will depend on what else needs to be replaced and the dealer that you use.Ê
if engine has carb.try replacing the accelerator pump, when worn out, will cause surging. problem. if engine has carb.try replacing the accelerator pump, when worn out, will cause surging. problem.also check coil. This can be caused by a worn timing belt. The 2.3 has had it's share of timing belt issues. I would get a HAYNES manual and check the timing belt most likely replacing the belt. When the belt is stretched, it has the effect of retarding the timing which will cause the problems you mentioned. These belts on these motors need to be replace every 70,000 miles to avoid this.
its either a timing belt or else a timing chain
There is no timing belt. There is timing chain. You do not need to ever change it, they last. Except if you change smtg else around, like water pump.
All these here should be replaced as per post somewhere else: timing belt, water pump, tensioner, tensioner pulley, and idler pulley
Hopefully nothing. Put a new belt on and try it.
yes you do have to loosen the nut on the tensioner, or else u wont have ennough slack in the belt to put it on, once it is in place then make shure u tighten the bolt again
checking to see if the timing belt should be replaced should be free. the replacement is based on mileage and should be in the owners manual. no secret code here. typical timing belt replacement costs should be between 4-5 hundred and can vary with engine type and if anything else is found to be shot that's related to the belt such as water pump, hydraulic tensioner, idler pulleys, crankshaft or camshaft oil seals etc...
check timing belt jumped or incorrect installation
