Where does the salad plate go when setting the table?

the i have no idea side the bread plate is placed to the right of the dinner plate, unless it is a very formal setting where the bread plate will be above the forks to the left of the dinner plate. The salad plate is always to the left of the dinner plate when not stacked on top of the dinner plate as in a formal setting.

Proper position for a dinner knife?

The dinner knife, or 'service knife,' in a semi-formal, or formal setting would be for the knife to be at the right of the dinner plate, with the blade facing the plate. If there is a butter plate and butter knife or 'spreader,' that knife should be on the butter plate to the left of the dinner plate, just above the cutlery on the left. The butter knife should be place with the handle facing to the right and the blade facing downwards. If there is an additional knife, such as a fish knife, etc., that knife should be to the right of the dinner knife, with the blade facing towards the dinner knife.

Which side of the plate does the dinner napkin go?

At a formal dinner setting the napkin is commonly placed across the dinner plate at the beginning of the meal. In some settings the napkin is folded and placed to the left of, and is some cases beneath the forks. At breakfast and again at luncheon the napkin is folded (sometimes artfully) to the left of the place setting. At an informal or family style dinner the napkin may be tucked into a napkin ring and placed either on or to the left of the plate. At a buffet the napkins are found folded on the buffet table in proximity to the flatware. At good restaurants and dinner parties napkins are appearing artfully folded on the dinner plates, above the setting and on occasion in the wine glass. This is the only time the napkin is found on the right of the place setting. During a seated meal your napkin should be a placed across your lap, never tucked into your collar or waistband. When leaving the table during dinner your napkin should remain on your chair until your return when it is replace on your lap. At the end of a formal dinner, as everyone is leaving the table the napkin is placed loosely to the left of the place setting.

What are the ways tableware can be laid out in formal dinner place settings?

In a formal dinner setting utensils are either on the left or right of the plate. The knives and spoons are set to the right of the plate and the forks are set to the left of the plate. If there is more than one fork like a salad fork, the salad fork will be placed further left to be used first. The same applies to a soup spoon which will be placed further right of the plate to be used first.

When you put dessert fork and spoon above the plate which direction does each face?

In a formally set table, if the dessert fork is placed at the time of the original setting it is placed horizontally, above the dinner plate tines pointing to the right. (the dessert spoon sits above it with the bowl pointing left) If the table setting is less formal the dessert fork comes to the table with the dessert. In a buffet style setting the forks are set on the table near the napkins and dessert plates.

How a knife and fork are set on a dinner format?

The knives are always on the right of the plate, blade in, the forks on the left.

Which side of the plate does the knife fork and spoon go on?

Left. While this is correct, it's counter -intuitive , as most people are right-handed. This persists as an affectation of superior social graces, and feel this out-moded custom is overdue for retirement.

What side of the dinner plate does rolled silverware belong?

Rolled?. On the Right.

What utensil would be the farthest left in a typical place setting?

In a most basic setting, on the left, between the napkin and the plate would ordinarily be the fork. In a broader setting, still referred to as a 'basic' setting, there may be a salad fork to the left of the luncheon fork or dinner fork. So, as a simple setting to visualise from right to left would be: Spoon, Knife (with blade facing the plate), Plate, Fork, Napkin. Above the spoon and knife would be a water glass and above the napkin and fork might be a butter plate, with butter knife, (handle facing towards the plate, and blade facing downward).

What country straddles two plates?

Setting a table where do you put the fork and knife?

In a standard Western or European setting the knife goes to the immediate right of the plate with the cutting side of the blade facing toward the plate, and the fork (or forks) go to the left of the plate; with the dinner fork closest to the plate and forks for other course to the left in such wise as the fork for the first course is on the outside, Hence the rule of thumb, when unsure of which fork to use, start at the outside and work in.

Which tectonic plates are continental and which are oceanic?

The majority of the plates are going to be both, such as the African plate or the North American plate. The Pacific plate is an example of, guess which, the oceanic plates. I don't know the name of it right off the top of my head, but the only continental only plate I can think of is the one that covers Russia and most of Europe.
