I can think of no reason EVER to use quicklime in a gardening or agricultural context. One might use it to make a lime mortar for construction or rendering, or a lumpish or lime putty - but as an addition to soil? NO. IF you do use it wear protective gear - gloves and goggles at a minimum. I rarely wear goggles for any DIY, but I do when using 'quicklime'.
they use it to neutralise acidic soil in fields
the water which is added in the soil should be usefull for compaction of soil to know the dry density of the soil
The lime added to sweeten the soil is usually white limestone. It makes soil less acidic.
quicklime, which is an alkali, is placed on the soil to neutralise acid soil and so raise its pH.The soil becomes too acid due to the bacteria which help plants and animals decompose. Why do we need to neutralise soil? Some plants grow better in less acid soilsBacteria, which cause plants to decompose and so fertilize the soil, grow better in less acid soils.
Soil that has not been touched by man or machine. It is soil that has developed naturally and has not been tilled or had chemicals added to it. Such soil is getting harder to find.
The soil on the fields is usually quute acidic. So, adding quicklime, which is an alkali, makes it neutural.
I would like to know what important substances that can be made from Quicklime?
they use it to neutralise acidic soil in fields
Lime (quicklime) is made from limestone- but it is not the same thing. Agricultural lime is powdered limestone. Quicklime is limestone (calcium carbonate) that has been roasted and changed to Calcium Oxide. Slaked quicklime is quicklime that has had water added- Calcium hydroxide. Quicklime is used for odor control.
Water is added to quicklime the make slaked lime. Calcium hydroxide reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide. CaO + H2O --> Ca(OH)2
Lime Quicklime
It is recommended that you seek medical attention immediately if you ingest quicklime. Ingesting quicklime can cause hypercalcemia, muscle ailments, kidney ailments, and abnormal bleeding.
manures and fertilizers should be added to the soil so that the fertility could be maintained.it is also used to give the soil nutrition which is present in less amount and to maintain the health of the crop
The quicklime is the calcium oxide - CaO.
the water which is added in the soil should be usefull for compaction of soil to know the dry density of the soil
Firstly, the limestone is heated to produce quicklime (calcium oxide - CaO) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The a small amount of water (H2O) is added to the quicklime, to produce slaked lime (calcium hydroxide - Ca(OH)2). In conclusion: limestone quicklime + carbon dioxide quicklime + water → slaked lime I really hope that helped! :)
Quicklime is calcium oxide, CaO.
