When the person is out cold, turning blue under the fingernails, and has no pulse, then "immediately" is when you start chest compression. There should be around 40 or 45 compressions per minute or more. You know you are doing it right when you start bouncing up and down rhythmically on the patient's chest - that is a lot less work than the foolish way they do it in doctore/hospital shows.

By the way, the current accepted CPR in most cases is hands- only. The patient has a better chance of survival when you do not stop to give her mouth-to-mouth respirations. The chest compressions move plenty of air in and out of the lungs.

An AED should be used during cardiac arrest.

When should a pre cordial thump be delivered?

A pre-cordial thump is delivered to a patient in cardiac arrest in an effort to counter ventricullar fibrillation and restart the heart. It should only be delivered if the cardiac arrest was witnessed AND a defibrillator is not immediately available.

Should you begin CPR once a victim has been in cardiac arrest for over 30 minutes?

Yes; you should still do CPR.

When should you never analyze a victim in cardiac arrest while using the aed?

Do not analyze if anyone is touching the patient.

Why is it important to defibrillate as soon as possible in cardiac arrest?

An AED is a device which uses an electrical shock to restart a heart that has failed during cardiac arrest. This device can be crucial, because when the heart stops beating during cardiac arrest, their blood also stops pumping, which can deprive the brain of oxygen and lead to serious brain damage should they survive. The faster the heart is restarted, the higher the chances of survival.

When a cardiac arrest occurs and an AED becomes available it should be used soon as possible true or false?

Who should not receive defibrillation?

Defibrillation should not be performed on a patient who has a pulse or is alert, as this could cause a lethal heart rhythm disturbance or cardiac arrest.

What happens when you perform early CPR on a child in cardiac arrest?

Yes, once you have confirmed that someone does have a pulse and is not breathing (or breathing abnormally), you should immediately call emergency services and begin CPR until help arrives. Early CPR is essential in increasing the chance of survival of someone in cardiac arrest.

Why should you minimize interruptions when giving chest compressions to victim of cardiac arrest?

Should you perform CPR on a casualty experiencing cardiac arrest?

Cardiac arrest is the only event in which CPR is appropriate. Chest compressions should never be done on a patient with a beating heart. The exception to that is treatment for choking, but that's a bit more advanced. Rescue breathing is appropriate for several medical and trauma problems, but CPR is only done during cardiac arrest. One thing to remember about cardiac arrest is that once someone is in cardiac arrest, they are DEAD. Nothing that a rescuer can do can make that person more dead. Also, in 2010, the standards are changing to what's called CCR (Cerebral Cardio Resuscitation), which is compression only CPR. No rescue breathing at all. If the heart isn't beating, the oxygen does no good. The debate has long been about whether stopping compressions for breaths, even though the cessation is brief, is bad for the perfusion pressure in the organs. They have determined that it is better to not have even brief cessations in chest compressions.

Should a patient in cardiac arrest receive CPR if they have had a stroke?

ANYONE who is in cardiac arrest should receive CPR. If a stroke victim needs CPR, it means that they are in cardiac arrest, which means they're dead. What would withholding CPR do for your patient.. they're already dead at that point. Dan, EMT ACLS PALS NRP RN, Medic Student
