# To gain access to the parking brake adjuster raise the rear and support the truck # Remove the rubber plug from the brake backing plate and using a screwdriver or brake adjusting tool turn the adjusting screw star wheel until the parking brake shoe start to drag as the disc is turned then back off the star wheel until the shoes dont drag
If the vehicle is parked on a hill and the weight of the vehicle is being held by the parking gear you may find that it will be difficult to shift out of park. I suggest using the parking BRAKE to hold the weight of the vehicle while parked. Set the parking brake BEFORE you put it into park, or at least before you remove your foot from the brake pedal. That way you are having the parking brake hold the weight and the transmission becomes the backup for holding the vehicle. It should be a lot easier to get it out of park then.
On a B6 Passat with EPB (Electric Park Brake), this can only be done using a diagnostic tool such as VCDS or similar.
The parking brake on the C5 Vetts are a weak spot in the car. I hope you are at least using the parking brake when parking on a steep grade!
In an car with an automatic transmission, you should be fine not using the parking brake. In one with a manual transmission, leaving the car in gear should suffice, but it can be hard on the transmission to do so. If you are facing downhill, leave the car in reverse. Alternately, if you are facing uphill, leave the car in any one of the forward gears (1st through 3rd-6th depending on what you top gear is).
# 1 Release the parking brake pedal to make sure it is disengaged. Put your Ford Taurus in "N" for neutral. # Step2 Raise your Ford Taurus rear wheels in the air using your jack and support the rear wheels with the jack stands. # Step3 Get underneath the vehicle and locate the parking brake cables. There is a cable coming from each rear wheel and meet in the middle with an adjuster nut. # Step4 Use the cable tension gauge 021-00018 or another tension gauge to measure the parking brake adjuster nut against the rear parking brake cable adjuster. Follow your tension gauge instructions to measure 18 to 26 pounds of tension for your 1996 year Ford Taurus and 34 to 46 pounds of tension for your years 1997 to 1998 Ford Taurus. # Step5 Press in on the parking brake foot pedal to the ground and then release the parking brake pedal. # Step6 Verify the rear wheels spin freely when the parking brake pedal is fully released. # Step7 Lower your Ford Taurus using the jack and remove the jack stands from the rear wheels.
Put the shifter in the "neutral" position, but also put on the parking brake, or hold the brake pedal down, so the car does not coast.
A: All vehicle manufacturers are using a set of internationally-standard symbols. The exclamation light means "suprise...you've got no brakes" and more commonly,"your parking brake is on slightly" or "the switch that shuts OFF your parking brake light is defective/wire disconnected/fell off/etc." This switch should be on your park brake pedal or lever (whichever you have).Good luck!
If you are referring to the parking brake...they are suppose to, but both, the left and the right side should pull down. The adjuster inside the drum my have stuck and needs some lube on the threads. Check the brake shoes on the rear.If they are still in spec tighen the side that dont pull down because it is not working correctly. If they are pulling down using the foot brake loosen the side that is pulling down, you should not notice the pull down when using the foot brake.
In academic writing you want to avoid using a personal voice, such as I and me, as much as you can. You also want to avoid using a passive voice. Examples of this are: has been, have been, is ---ing, should.
The car ahead of me stopped abruptly, so I had to brake quickly to avoid a crash.
