2. Remove the splash shield.

3. Remove the drive belt auto-tensioner.

4. Remove the cylinder head cover.

5. Set the No. 1 piston at top dead center (TDC). The ''UP'' mark on the camshaft sprocket should be at the top, and the TDC grooves on the camshaft sprocket should line up with the top edge of the head.

6. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.

7. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

8. Support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the oil pan.

9. Remove the bolt securing the A/C line, then remove the upper torque rod.

10. Remove the ground cable, then remove the side engine mount bracket.

11. Remove the oil pump.

12. Measure the tensioner rod length between the tensioner body and bottom of the flat surface section on the tensioner rod. If the length is more than the service limit, replace the cam chain.

13. Tensioner rod length service limit is 0.57 in. (14.5 mm).

14. Loosely install the crankshaft pulley.

15. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to compress the auto-tensioner.

16. Align the holes on the lock and the auto-tensioner, then insert a 0.04 in. (1.0 mm) diameter pin into the holes. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to secure the pin.

17. Remove the auto-tensioner.

18. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

19. Remove the cam chain guide and the cam chain tensioner arm.

20. Remove the cam chain.

21. Set the crankshaft to top dead center (TDC). Align the TDC mark on the crankshaft sprocket with the pointer on the engine block.

22. Set the camshaft to TDC. The ''UP'' mark on the camshaft sprocket should be at the top, and the TDC grooves on the camshaft sprocket should line up with the top edge of the head.

23. Install the cam chain on the crankshaft sprocket with the colored piece aligned with the mark on the crankshaft sprocket.

24. Install the cam chain on the camshaft sprocket with the colored link plate aligned with the mark on the camshaft sprocket.

25. Install the cam chain guide and the cam chain tensioner arm.

26. Compress the auto-tensioner when replacing the cam chain. Remove the pin from the auto-tensioner that was installed during removal. Turn the plate counterclockwise, to release the lock, then press the rod, and set the first cam to the first edge of the rack. Insert the 1.0 mm (0.04 in) diameter pin into the holes.

27. Install the auto-tensioner.

28. Remove the pin or lock pin from the auto-tensioner.

29. Check the oil pump oil seal for damage If the oil seal is damaged, replace the oil seal..

30. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the oil pump mating surfaces, the bolts, and the bolt holes.

31. Clean and dry the oil pump mating surfaces.

32. Apply liquid gasket to the engine block mating surface of the oil pump, and to the inside edge of the threaded bolt holes. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.

33. Apply liquid gasket to the engine block upper surface contact areas on the oil pump and the lower block upper surface contact areas on the oil pump.

34. Apply liquid gasket to the oil pan mating surface of the oil pump, and to the inside edge of the threaded bolt holes. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket. Apply a 3 mm (0.12 in) diameter bead of liquid gasket.

35. Install new O-rings on the oil pump. Set the edge of the oil pump on the edge of the oil pan, then install the oil pump on the engine block. Loosely install the dowel bolts, then tighten the 8 mm bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (33 Nm), the 6 mm bolts and the dowel bolts. Wipe off the excess liquid gasket on the oil pan and oil pump mating surface.

36. Wait at least 30 minutes to allow liquid gasket to cure before filling the engine with oil.

37. Install the side engine mount bracket, then loosely tighten the new bolt and nut, then loosely tighten the bolt.

38. Install the ground cable.

39. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

40. Loosen the top transmission mounting bolt and nuts.

41. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

42. Loosen the lower torque rod mounting bolt.

43. Lower the vehicle on the lift.

44. Tighten the side engine mount bracket mounting bolts and nut to 52 ft. lbs. (72 Nm).

45. Tighten the transmission mounting bolt and nuts to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).

46. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

47. Tighten the lower torque rod mounting bolt to 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm).
