If it's running ok and still gets decent mileage it's probably not a necessity yet. With today's computer controlled cars, ignition systems, and spark plugs most vehicles will easily make it to 100,000 miles. As long as nothing else starts acting up before then, that's when I do our tune ups. Use the recommended platinum plugs. The cheap ones just don't cut it and won't last as long. If you do the tune up yourself, you won't want to do it any more often than you have to after the first one you do. It's not fun.
